John Deere Classic DraftKings Picks

Want to try DraftKings? They are running a free MLB contest Wednesday, July 8th, giving away $5,000 in prizes. The top 3,000 entries win money, so it’s definitely a good introduction to DraftKings. After you win the freeroll, you can hop into this week’s PGA contests…

The first PGA Contest you can enter is the Future of Fantasy Golf Tour contest. Comment below if you need an invite. It’s a good warmup for next week’s Open Championship. There are prizes awarded throughout the year, so keep piling up those FoF Tour points! Now let’s see what we can piece together this week on DraftKings.

Form Fitting

Tony Finau ($8500)… 13th-25th-14th-8th-10th-19th-16th
Kevin Kisner ($10700)… 2nd-12th-8th-5th-38th
Scott Brown ($8600)… 37th54th-12th-72nd-34th-33rd-13th
Jason Bohn ($8400)… 13th-73rd-29th-52nd-2nd-9th
Will Wilcox ($6400)… 79th-73rd-12th-22nd
Jon Curran ($7300)… 143rd-10th-53rd-6th-33rd-81st

What is the correct route to take when setting up a daily fantasy golf roster? Form or History? Form often overrides course history, so this team is taking that approach. Curran and Wilcox may have a few MCs in there, but their top finishes make up for that, given their prices. Who else is in good form entering the John Deere Classic, how about Jordan Spieth, Robert Streb, George McNeill, Zach Johnson, Steven Bowditch, or Brian Harman.

Course Horse-tory

Zach Johnson ($11400)… 2nd-2nd-1st-3rd-21st-2nd-69th
Steve Stricker ($9300)… 11th-10th-5th-1st-1st-1st
Brendon de Jonge ($7500)… 45th-54th-19th-7th-7th-122nd
Tim Clark ($6700)… 5th-36th-7th-18th
Charles Howell III ($8300)… 23rd-33rd-77th-5th-39th-23rd
Chad Campbell ($6800)… 13th-15th-36th-56th-34th-15th-7th

Is course history more your thing? start with this roster and adjust to your liking. Some other course horses include Jerry Kelly, Scott Brown, and Ryan Moore. Other than that, the consistency really goes out the window in terms of gaining strokes here at TPC Deere Run.

Handpicked Value Plays

Vaughn Taylor ($6,200) … After a near-drowning incident last year, he’s re-prioritized his life and his golf game has returned as a result. He has four top 20s in six starts this season. His track record at TPC Deere Run ain’t too shabby either.

Troy Merritt ($7,100) … His form does not merit a pick this week, but his local ties do. Trust the Midwest guys this week. Merritt grew up in Osage, Iowa, and lists Dubuque, Iowa, as one of his favorite places to visit. That’s not just favorite places to visit IN IOWA, that’s where he likes to visit if he has the choice to travel anywhere… Odd. So far, nine of his 10 career rounds at TPC Deere Run have been better than field average. Gotta like that.

Will Wilcox ($6,400) … Just narrowly missed the cut again last week, but his price plummeted this week, so he’s back on our radar! Wavegod Wilcox is one of the best in Good Drive Percentage which means he hits fairways and when he misses them, he still manages to hit greens in regulation. GIRs = Birdie Opps… A necessity this week in a shootout.
