The Rocco Forte Open Fantasy Preview

After a co-sanctioned Challenge Tour event in Portugal, the Euro Tour is turning up the heat from a simmer to a low-medium setting as we see a slightly stronger field this week.

The first big event of the season takes place next week at Wentworth so this could be considered the calm before the storm as they head to Italy for the Rocco Forte Open.

The Rocco Forte Open is a new event with no course history. The course is described as a links-style course right on the coast.

My colleague Matt Cooper at Rotoworld called it “pretend links” which describes it nicely. Unlike most links tracks, there is bermuda tee-to-green, a decent amount of trees to deal with, and water on 9 holes.

Despite the track not being a true links test, I would still prefer good links golfers since this course is right on the coast, exposed to the wind. The course is medium length at 7,217 yards and has bentgrass on the putting greens.

Players to Watch

Bradley Dredge … If we’re treating this as a links-style course slash pretend links, Dredge has a good record on links courses recently. It helps that he is the class of the field. He is the man to beat in my eyes, despite nothing spectactular in his recent form.

Alexander Bjork … A great value on DK as he’s priced right at $8K. He’s had almost zero troubles adjusting from the Challenge Tour.

Eddie Pepperell … First off my top 25 list this week, I do think this is a course that could fit Pepperell’s game. The problem is his form, missing the cut in 8 of his last 9 worldwide.

Romain Langasque … Much like Bjork, he is a steal on DK this week (just $7,300). We’ve seen the French wunderkind soar up the salry list in recent events, but he’s no longer the flavor of the month, so now we get winning upside at quite the bargain.

Max Orrin … Another steady finish last week, keep riding the cuts-made train in DFS.

Rikard Karlberg
