Talk about a crazy opening week to the 2013 PGA Season. Weather delay after weather delay, and then more weather delays. In the end, Dustin Johnson proved why he is the king of weather-shortened 54-hole tournaments. This was his third 54-hole tournament win on the PGA Tour. He also proved why it pays to be good at golf. Johnson showed up at Kapalua with Paulina Gretzky by his side. Oh Gooooood For You Dustin.
Group A: I think Brendon de Jonge, Jonas Blixt, Charles Howell and Tim Clark are all good options here. Jonas Blixt was second on tour in Strokes Gaines Putting last year. That is a big reason why I like Blixt to break out in 2013. He played pretty solid golf after the Tour ended last season as well, so the momentum is there.
Group B: Dustin Johnson is living the dream currently. Johnson is 1-0 in tournaments while dating Paulina Gretzky. It’s very to hard win back-to-back weeks on the PGA Tour, but this is a very good opportunity for DJ. I would make him the favorite this week, and Vegas agrees. He is currently 8-1 to win the Sony Open. Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, and Keegan Bradley are the other “no-brainers” in Group B. Personally, I am going to save Keegan for longer courses, but I wouldn’t fault anyone for picking him.
Group C: There are so many golfers in the C-List and none of them really stand out as must-pick options. I like Ryan Moore a lot seeing that he finished 2012 finishing 10th, 10th, 3rd and then winning a Justin Timberlake charity event to top it off. Moore disappointed me last week, but I am expecting a bounce-back this week. If you trust the old man, Vijay Singh should be up there on the leaderboard come Sunday, just like all of 2012. Other C-List options I like are Pat Perez and Kevin Streelman.
Last week, six of my top ten golfers actually ended up finishing in the top ten. Then there was Webb that finished just outside, 11th. It was a shortened field, but still not a bad start to the season. Now that the field has opened back up, I will list my Top 15 golfers for the 2013 Sony Open in Hawaii:
My Top 15 for the 2013 Sony Open in Hawaii:
Brendon de Jonge
