Player Spotlight: Brandon Roy

Brandoy Roy In the first NBA draft after implementing a rule requiring players to have at least one year of basketball experience after leaving high school many analysts speculated the draft would lack superstar talent. And they were right, except for one player, Brandon Roy. Drafted sixth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brandon Roy was traded on draft day to the Portland Trailblazers for rights to Randy Foye. Since being traded, Roy has made a name for himself in the league. In his rookie year, Roy averaged 16.8 PPG, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebs, and 1.2 steals earning him Rookie of the Year honors and making him the face of the young Portland franchise. This year, Roy is averaging 19.3 PPG, 5.6 assists, 4.5 rebs, and 0.9 steals while leading the Trailblazers to their impressive 26-19 start to the season, and not to mention his first nomination to the All-Star game. Not only has Brandon Roy been an impact player in Portland, he has also been a fantasy basketball stud. Not only will he provide consistent production, but what really puts smiles on the faces of his fantasy owners is his toughness. Roy has been an ironman playing through injuries seemingly every other week. With two weeks until the All-Star break Roy has braved his way through a recurring Achilles tendon injury, a painful tailbone injury, and more recently a nagging hand injury. If Roy can keep his future clear of injuries like these, his potential is enormous as he seems like a permanent resident at All-Star games and fantasy leagues to come. Bill Walton has certainly noticed his phenomenal play stating “This guy is a future Hall of Famer”, and hopefully after all is said and done, fantasy nation will be shouting his name with the same grandeur.
