Performance on Coastal Courses

Whenever a links course rolls around, it’s more often than not situated right along a coastline.

There are plenty of other non-links courses that are also nuzzled along the coast, which generally amplifies any wind to provide a tough test and leave the course open to the elements.

Golfer Quotes

Q. What’s your relationship with this course in terms of how much you like, don’t like it?
RYAN BLAUM:
I mean, I like it. Any time that I’m by the ocean, I’m comfortable. I’m from Miami, living in Jax Beach, Ponte Vedre Beach. I just love being around the ocean, around the water. It’s a comfort level. -2018 Sea Island

Graeme McDowell: The only advantage I see to having a links experience is if this ocean breeze gets up. It’s heavier. It affects the ball more. Perhaps why I’ve performed well on the West Coast, for example, is that breeze coming off the Pacific. It just affects the golf ball quite differently from how an inland U.S., United States wind would affect the golf ball. -2012 PGA Championship
