This is the third and final segment of my Playoff Predictions. Four Teams remain, Philadelphia, Carolina, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. All four teams reside on the East Coast, and two are even from the same state. According to Football Outsiders DVOA Ratings, all four teams have Top 10 Defenses, while only one (Panthers) have a Top 10 Offense. Defense ultimately wins Championships when you factor in all the elements such as weather, fatigue, and knowing one loss means the end of your season.
Conference Championships
Philadelphia Eagles @ Carolina Panthers
The Eagles pass Defense is one of the best in the leagues, they are second in shutting down #2 Recievers but only 13th in shutting down the opponents Top WR. This should mean a field day for Steve Smith, but not enough to single-handedly win it for the Panthers. The Panthers are quite opposite, they are great at shutting down the Top WRs, but Philly’s Passing attack is so balanced, we should see big games from numerous Eagles receivers. The Panthers also struggle to shut down any running attack (24th in the NFL), so the Eagles running attack should pose a stiff challenge. In the end the Eagles Defense will make big stops, forcing turnovers and carry the Eagles straight to the Super Bowl.
WINNER: Eagles (24-16)
Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
I don’t think people have stressed just how good this year’s Steelers Defense really is. It may be the best Defense Pittsburgh has ever sent out, and they have had plenty of great Defenses in Pittsburgh. However, the Ravens Defense is easily the second best Defense in the entire NFL, and very capable of game-changing plays. As a fan, if you’re only interested in watching spectacular offense plays and the thought of 42-35 games gives you a slight bulge in the pants, I suggest not watching this one. I would not even be surprised if both offenses went the entire game without scoring a Touchdown. When it crunch time though, Big Ben vs Rookie Joe Flacco, who would you want in that situation? That’s a no brainer, and may very well decide the fate of this matchup.
WINNER: Steelers (13-6)
Super Bowl XLIII
“The Pennsylvania Party”
Philadelphia Eagles vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Last year was the “Year of Boston” after the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics are won their respective League Championships. This year is shaping up to be the “Year of Philadelphia.” Okay, so the 76ers part of the equation is not so easy to believe, but Hey, It Could Happen. In order to win Championship, you must have a complete package of Offense, Defense and Special Teams.
Better Offense? Eagles.
Better Defense? Steelers
Better Special Teams? Eagles
Let’s pretend the Pittsburgh Steelers Offense is a potential Girlfriend instead. It would fall into the category of “No Personality and average to below-average in the looks department.” Not exactly the girl you’d run and tell your boys about, or bring home to meet Mom and Dad. Not even the Steelers Defense can make up for poor offense and a couple of Special Teams gaffs when playing a legitimate opponent like Philadelphia. Having two teams from the same state may result in lower TV Ratings than usual, but the actual game will not be one you want to miss.

Strange to say but I agree with you that it is going to be these 4 teams left. I think Carolina is going to be the Super Bowl Champion this year though. I think its going to be Steelers vs. Carolina with Carolina winning it all. As much as that pains me to say.
