With baseball around the corner, and basketball hitting its mid-point for the season, fantasy football has come to a halt. Just like the Chi-town Cubbies favorite saying, “there’s always next year” which is what a lot of fantasy football managers are saying at the end of last December, who had finished in the bottom half of their league. However fantasy football managers have a lot to look forward to for the ’08 fantasy football season and it is never to early to start preparing for any upcoming fantasy seasons. Ladanian Tomlinson and rookie phenom Adrian Peterson already have a lock on the first two overall picks of any fantasy football draft for the upcoming ’08 season, and many are wondering who is going to go third? Not Tom Brady, not Larry “I have no line” Johnson, but many should welcome with arms open to Marion Barber III of the Dallas Cowboys for their 3rd overall pick in the ’08 fantasy draft. The speedy Julius Jones out of Notre Dame (the younger brother of Thomas Jones of the NY Jets) has paid his dues to the Cowboys as this was the final year of his contract, and many speculation say he will not be coming back, and if he does, he will be the lead back up for Barber III, if he can accept that role. Barber III still under the radar earned his first career start which happen to be in the playoffs against division rival the New York Giants. It was the first time that Jones had to watch the start of the game from the sidelines as Barber III had 129 yards rushing on 27 carries while scoring a TD, averaging 4.8 yards a carry.
Marion Barber III (above) has the potential to be at the top of fantasy running backs, while carrying the ball behind and outstanding line of Marc Colombo, Flozell Adams, Andre Gurode and great blocker and receiver Jason Witten. Barber III has earned his second straight year as a Pro Bowler while scoring a combined 24 touchdowns over the last two season. Marion Barber III was the hardest running half back in the NFL this season, he led the league in broken tackles and did it all with backing up Julius Jones and splitting carries for all 16 games of the regular season, as Jim Rome would say, re-mark-ab-le. The New England Patriots with their perfect season was a victim of Marion’s hard nose rushing style week 6 of the regular season. The Dallas Cowboys, on their own 6 yard line, handed the ball off the Barber III as he got pushed back in the end-zone, which should have been a safety, but ran out of the end-zone breaking 6 tackles for a hard earned 2-yard gain. Marion Barber III will be the feature back of the Cowboys in the upcoming ’08 fantasy football season and should definitely be a top five pick in any body’s fantasy football draft. Barber III should have a fantastic season with all the talent around him only complementing Barber III. Getcha popcorn ready.

I’d say 4806 passing yards and 50 touchdowns might be worth considering at #3. I didn’t even like Larry Johnson at #3 this year coming off his best season, why would he be considered at #3 next year? What about Adrian Peterson? Marshawn? MJD? Selvin? Maybe not at #3, but you gotta take a hard look them as well I think.
Lynch won’t be as good, especially on Buffalo, they’re getting better but they dont have the O-line or the team in general the cowboys have, selvin young can’t be considered that high yet as he wasn’t even that big of a star at texas, yes i know in vinces shadow..and brady is not going to throw 50 touchdowns…and if you read the article, you have have seen that i think peterson already has the 1 or 2 spot a lock..And for some god given reason that I dont know why…RB’s are worth more to people in fantasy leagues across america….I dont know why still cause QBs put up better numbers as far as points go…But still Barber will be the 3rd or 4th best back next year…depending on if Stephen can stay healthy as well…
Selvin Young will only go as far as the Broncos take him and with Henry there, I wouldn’t even think about him in the first four rounds. Marshawn is overrated and my mom could have told you that after a record number of carries in 2006, LJ would be down with fatigue in 2007. Now, if you want a top running back in a fantasy league which rewards receptions, you have to take the most underrated running back year in year out, Brian Westbrook. This exciting star had 1300 yards rushing and 770 yards receiving on 90 receptions last year, oh and i forgot, 12 TD’s (13 if you count him stopping at the one yard line). And the year before: 1200 rushing and 77 receptions for 700 yards. The only thing to watch for would be what happens to McNabb which could hurt his stats. After taking Westbrook I might think about taking a look at Barber but I think much of the hype given to him will fade because he looks so great while he came in facing a worn out defense in the second half… We will see what he can do when he plays the full half. More to come later this week
