The first week of any fantasy season is generally full of surprises. This week was no different. On a per-game basis, the top 5 players are Larry Hughes, Al Horford, Paul Pierce, Danilo Gallinari, and Josh Smith. You would have to be a serious prophet if you could have predicted even three of those players. That being said, we are looking at a 1-3 game sample size, so don’t go trading LeBron James for Larry Hughes.
Week 2 Schedule Breakdown
Four Games: ATL, BOS, DEN, DET, LAL, MEM, MIN, NJN, NOR, NYK, ORL, PHO, SAC, UTA, WAS
Three Games: CHA, CHI, CLE, DAL, GSW, HOU, IND, LAC, MIA, MIL, OKC, PHI, POR, TOR
Two Games: SAS
Favorable Schedules
Memphis Grizzlies It’s no secret that Sacramento, Golden State and LA Clippers don’t play defense. The Grizzlies play all three this week, in addition to the Lakers.
L.A. Clippers Only three games, but they should yield solid fantasy stats vs. the Minnesota, Golden State and Memphis.
Un-Favorable Schedules
San Antonio Spurs Only two games this week, and they are back-to-back on Thursday and Friday.
Portland Blazers The Blazers face two of the toughest fantasy matchups with the Spurs and Hawks. Don’t expect big weeks from your Blazers in week two.
Players to Add
Danilo Gallinari (62%) – If your league falls in the 38% of leagues where Gallinari is unowned, go pick him up now. He looks poised for a big year after Week one.
Channing Frye (52%) – Channing Frye is hitting 3-Pointers at an alarming rate, from the Center position, no less… Pick him up, pick him up, pick him up.
Andray Blatche (52%) – Andray Blatche looks ready to fill in for Antawn Jamison. He should be solid for at least three more weeks, if not longer.
Marreese Speights (32%) – In the first three games, Speights has averaged 16.7 Points and 7.3 Rebounds in just 23 minutes. Look for his role to increase as the season progresses.
Ryan Anderson (15%) – Ryan Anderson is filling in during Rashard Lewis’ suspension, and doing a damn good job at it. Yet, he is still being overlooked by 85% of all fantasy leagues. You can mark down RyAnd for at least two treys per game, at least until Rashard returns.
Maurice Evans (3%) – Mo Evans is a miracle worker, providing solid fantasy stats in very limited minutes. Barring injury, it’s doubtful that his minutes increase, but he is someone to add in a very deep league, and keep an eye on in regular sized leagues.
Don’t Panic
T.J. Ford & Brandon Rush – Both are off to snail starts, but week two matchups vs. Denver, New York and Washington should jump start these Pacers.
Amare Stoudemire – 18 pts, 5 rebs and 5 turnovers per game is not what you were expecting from your likely first round pick. This is just rust from missing a lot of time last season, STAT will be back before you know it.
Raymond Felton & D.J. Augustin – Felton and Augustin, along with the rest of the Bobcats ran into the machine known as the Boston Celtics who made sure they came prepared this year, after no doing so last season. All of the Bobcats are off to a slow start, but should be just fine looking forward.
Do Panic
Tyreke Evans – After a solid Pre-Season, Evans is off to a horrible regular season start. He is shooting 39.5% from the field, 58% from the line, and averaging 2.7 Turnovers. Tyreke will have some sexy games, but will be too inconsistent to trust in a H2H League. Let another manager enjoy this overhypee.
Ron Artest – If you were a believer of Ron Artest before last week, it is hard to have that same faith after watching the Lakers play in Week One. It is clear that Artest was acquired solely for his Defense. Artest has averaged 13.6 FG attempts per game in his career. After two game for the Lakers, his has combined to shoot 16 shots. Could be an aberration, but most likely a sign of what’s to come this season.
