FanDuel Fantasy Football Championships
In case you missed out on all the FFFC hype this year, FanDuel Insider has provided some great coverage of what took place in Las Vegas last December. Chris Prince aka beermakersfan, as FanDuelers may know him as, walked away the big winner. Prince turned his $10 entry into $75,000 cash. Don’t worry because the Daily Fantasy Baseball Championship in Las Vegas is just around the corner and the 2012 Football Championship is only going to get bigger next year. Check out the Video over at FanDuel Insider.

Tis’ the Season to be jolly. That is exact philosophy FanDuel has taken. Instead of going dormant for the holidays, FanDuel is upping the ante this Holiday Season. Someone must have received their Christmas Bonus early over at FanDuel because they are certainly in the giving mood.

First, they are running a $500 NFL Contest this weekend. This is free to enter, and pays out the Top 9 finishers. That is $300 more than their usual $200 Friends of FanDuel Freerolls. It doesn’t stop there, though. To kick off the NBA Season, FanDuel is running a $1,000 NBA Freeroll that pays out the Top 70 finishers. Yup, that is a four digit prize pool. Not one hundred dollars… one thousand dollars. Find out how to enter below.

How To Enter the $1,000 Fantasy NBA Contest
1. Simply CLICK HERE to pick you team within the $60k salary cap. Consisting of 2xPG, 2xSG, 2xSF, 2xPF and C. Remember you are just picking the player who you think will perform in the games on the 25th.

UPDATE: Below is the Basketball Team I entered. The big question mark is Klay Thompson. The rookie out of Wazzou is already in Mark Jackson’s good graces and when Steph Curry tweaked his ankle in Tuesdays preseason game, I had to roll the dice with Thompson for $3,000 FanDuel Dollars. I think Rip Hamilton tries to prove he’s not washed up, and starts the season very strong. Brandon Bass should get some solid run in Boston, especially with Jeff Green out of the equation. Bass is a great hustle guy who could end with 8 points, 8 rebounds, a couple steals, a couple blocks on any given night. I thought Brandon Haywood was relatively cheap, since Tyson Chandler is no longer in his way. Haywood should be a rebound-hog.

It may be common sense, but match-ups in the NBA are crucial when determining your Daily Fantasy Roster. Until now, you have been in the dark in regards to how easy it is to rack up fantasy points against respective opponents. In particular, I will be providing how easy it is to score FanDuel Points against all 30 NBA Teams.

Instead of providing the basic opponent stats, I have included only Starters in these rankings. After all, if the Boston Celtics are shutting down starting Point Guards, but allowing backup points to score a decent amount in garbage time, those stats can be deceiving. In the world of Daily Fantasy Sports, backups are generally obsolete.

There are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, I use Jason Terry as the Starting Shooting Guard rather than DeShawn Stevenson. After all, Terry is FanDuel relevant, while Stevenson is not.

Have a decision between two equal players? Player A is facing the Miami Heat, while the Player B is facing the Phoenix Suns? These rankings will show you that all things being equal, Player B will score about seven more FanDuel points on average than Player A. That is quite the difference, and can often be the difference between a FanDuel Win or a FanDuel Loss. Take a look at the rest of the FanDuel Opponent Ease Rankings to make sure you’re making all the right match-up decisions. In the future, you will be able to find these rankings under the NBA Heading up top. Enjoy!

Note: Position-by-Position Ease Rankings will be coming soon!

The Wizards have only played five games, but John Wall is already establishing himself as an elite fantasy player. 19.4 points, 9.6 assists with 2.6 steals is fantastic for any player. Coming from a rookie makes it even more impressive. Let’s compare John Wall’s first five games as an NBA player versus a few other comparables. This is comparing each player’s stats for the first five games started in the NBA:

As you can see, Wall is playing more minutes, dishing the ball out at an incredible rate, and also getting to the charity stripe 7+ times per game.

While those stats may be impressive, Wall is currently on pace to break the NBA Single-Season record in one category not mentioned yet… Turnovers. Jimmy Wall is currently averaging 5.8 turnovers per game, which is on pace for 476, assuming a full 82 games played. This would wallop the current record of 366 turnovers, set by Artis Gilmore in the 1977-78 season. You can’t expect Wall to maintain this pace, but it will be a fun stat to follow all year.

Does this ruin John Wall’s value as a fantasy player? Absolutely not. If you play in a league without Turnovers as a category, or just want to punt Turnovers, then John Wall is currently the 21st ranked player. If you do care about Turnovers for some reason, then Wall is still a Top 75 player. Not too shabby for a Rookie.

The National Basketball Association has been in session for one week now. It is time to start prematurely categorizing teams. It’s still very early, but here they are:

Surprisingly Good Teams

New Orleans Hornets (3-0) – Almost all NBA analysts expected the Hornets to improve on their 37-45 record, but not many saw them as an elite team. In their first three games they’ve managed to beat three 09-10 playoff teams, including an impressive nine point road victory at San Antonio.

Miami Heat (4-1) The Heat have not been surprising to all those crazy people predicting the Heat to beat the Bulls Single-Season win record. Considering they lost their most crucial role player, Mike Miller, beating teams by an average of 17 points through four games is rather impressive.

Portland Blazers (4-1) The Blazers have one hiccup (Loss @ Bulls). Other than that, they have been quite impressive. Not because they’ve been beating good teams, because they isn’t the case. Instead, they have impressed me because they have a lot of room for improvement. Batum and Rudy aren’t playing like they are capable of, and Greg Oden is still going to return mid-season. In my opinion, this team has the best chances to dethrone the Lakers from the Western Conference Championship.

Surprisingly Bad Teams

L.A. Clippers (0-4) – The Clippers looked like they were ready to at least take a small step forward this year. Instead, it’s more of the same for Clippers fans. Baron is out of shape, like usual, and Eric Gordon is still just a good role player. At least the Clippers fans get to watch the freak show known as Blake Griffin. My recommendation: enjoy it while it lasts, Griffin is fragile.

Charlotte Bobcats (0-3) – You can’t directly blame D.J. Augustin, or the departure of Felton for the Bobcats early struggles. On the other hand, their front court, excluding Tyrus Thomas, has been useless. It looks like the Bobcats are going to have to fight for their playoff spot this season.

Milwaukee Bucks (1-3) Other than a home victory against another surprisingly bad team, Charlotte, the Bucks are winless. However, two of these losses are on the road and all three are against Western Conference foes. This team is built to be a .500 team, and they will still be alright in the long-run, on the .500 journey.

This may be a few days late, better late than never. After reading the breakdown over at Give Me The Rock, I felt it was necessary to pass on this important knowledge.

Give Me The Rock broke down the NBA Schedule, team-by-team, and day-by-day.

Cliff Notes: Only 5% of NBA games are played on Thursdays, 12% on Tuesdays, 12% on Sundays, 13% on Mondays, 14% on Saturdays, 20% on Saturdays and 23% on Wednesdays.

A game played on Wednesday or Friday is almost worthless for your lesser players. They will usually just be on your team’s bench, anyway. I decided to set up a quick & simple scoring system for each team’s 2010-11 Schedule.

This simple system is set up like this:
Monday Game = 5 Points
Tuesday Game = 5 Points
Wednesday Game = 2 Points
Thursday Game = 10 Points
Friday Game = 2 Points
Saturday Game = 5 Points
Sunday Game = 5 Points

With the NBA Season rapidly approaching, lets preview out last Division, the Pacific.

The Lakers are still the team to beat until proven otherwise. My gut tells me they don’t three-peat. The Warriors and Kings are two of the most improved teams, and could definitely make a run at the playoffs if things fall for them. The Suns don’t have a presence down low they can rely on, and far too many wing players. Blake Griffin should really help the Clippers take a step in the right direction.

L.A. Lakers

Shannon Brown (ADP: 160+) has the best chance to take his game to another level. As a backup for Fisher and Kobe, he should see 25 minutes per game. We could see 12 points, 1.5 threes and 1.5 steals. Same type of value you get from Corey Brewer, for example, yet cheaper.

Phoenix Suns

Steve Nash (ADP: 12) – Most fantasy managers have players that can’t stand. For me, Nash is one of those players. So, when I say to avoid him because he’s old, bound to get injured, and overrated, let it be known that I have said the same thing for the past four years. Seriously, though, we will see a decline in production from Nash in 2010-11.

Golden State Warriors

Andris Biedrins (ADP: 127) – Remember that Biedrins was the 15th best per-game fantasy player just two seasons ago. He’s not quite the same player after all the injuries, but there is still a lot of value when you can draft him after the 120th pick.

Sacramento Kings

DeMarcus Cousins (ADP: 95) is going to be an All-Star in the NBA. It may not happen right away, it may even take two or three years, but it will happen. There are three things Cousins needs to control in order to have a successful rookie campaign: his fouls, his temper and the ball. Cousins may force things out of the gate and turn the ball over a lot. Once he settles in, I think he can have a great second half of the season. Prediction: 13 points, 8 rebounds, 0.6 steals, 1.1 blocks.

L.A. Clippers

Eric Gordon (ADP: 68) was all the rage last preseason. Then, a couple injuries later and posting average stats, the bandwagon has cleared out. Playing with the US Team should have helped his game and confidence. Who’s ready to hop back on the bandwagon for round two?

The Blazers are no longer the young, up-and-comers. They are now ready to have their experience pay off, by possibly winning the West. Oklahoma City is exciting, but still very young and inexperienced. The Nuggets thin front court, and Melo trade rumors will hold them back this year. Al Jefferson will replace Boozer just fine, fantasy-wise, but Boozer is a much better real-life player. The T-wolves are making steps in the right direction, They will be much better this year. Lets take a look at how the Northwest breaks down:

Portland Trailblazers

Nicolas Batum (ADP: 124) won’t be 22 years old until December. The Blazers have made it perfectly clear that he is the #1 Small Forward on the team by letting Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw leave town. Per game, Batum was already the 74th ranked player last season. With no competition in town, Top 50 is not farfetched. I am predicting 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.7 steals, 2.1 threes with 50+ FG% and 80+ FT%. Could be the steal of a lot of fantasy drafts this year.

Oklahoma City Thunder

James Harden (ADP: 132) is a stud when he plays. Now with a year of NBA experience under his belt, he should at least see 25 minutes a game. There were 34 games last season when Harden played 24 minutes or more. In those games he averaged 13.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.8 threes. That’s more valuable than players like O.J. Mayo, Aaron Brooks, Tyreke Evans, etc. Bottom Line: Don’t sleep on Harden.

Denver Nuggets

Chauncey Billups (ADP: 28) is old. He has played 13 NBA seasons, playing in 1049 games (including playoffs). After the magical 1,000 game mark, the reward of drafting players your fantasy team is generally outweighed by the risk of their decline. Avoid Billups this year in all fantasy drafts.

Utah Jazz

Al Jefferson (ADP: 33) has big shoes to fill, replacing Carlos Boozer. Now that Jefferson is a year removed from his serious knee injury, expect a comeback season, in a big way. Jefferson was a Top 10 player two years ago before his career threatening injury. With that kind of potential, his ADP of 33 is a steal.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Michael Beasley (ADP: 97) gets a fresh start in Minnesota. If Beasley is going to be a star in the NBA, this is his year to become one. Worst case scenario is more of the same for Beasley. Best case, you get a superstar, averaging 20 points, 8 rebounds, with a steal and a block. At pick 97, the reward definitely outweighs the risk.

The Dallas Mavericks are full of veterans, but as far as title contention goes, last year was probably their last real chance. The Spurs are always in the Playoff picture, 52 games sound about right for them. The Rockets lost Trevor Ariza to a division foe. They better hope Ariza-lite , Courtney Lee, steps his game up. The Grizzles won 40 games last season, and are incredibly young. They can only get better this year. The Hornets have surrounded CP3 with a lot of solid pieces. Having CP3 for a full season will definitely help, as well.

Dallas Mavericks

Dirk Nowitzki (ADP: 4) has been as steady as they come in fantasy over his career. That being said, he is 32 years old, and has played in 920 Regular Season NBA Games. The odds of him maintaining productive and staying healthy aren’t that great. Plus, he’s pretty boring to own, so he doesn’t have much trade value. I would draft him 10th at the earliest.

San Antonio Spurs

Tiago Splitter (ADP: 160+) is receiving a lot of hype but that has settled down after not playing in the Preseason due to injury. He has a ton of potential, and he comes in a NBA ready version. The foot injury may hold back his value for the first 1/3 of the season, but he is a great pickup or trade-for candidate at that point. A combination of Scola and NeNe is the type of player Splitter can became as he settles into the NBA Lifestyle.

Houston Rockets

Courtney Lee (ADP: 160+) was a super sleeper on a lot of website last year, but he didn’t really live up to the hype. Even without “breaking out,” Lee was still the 92nd best fantasy player last year. Even with a crowded rotation in Houston, there is no reason Lee shouldn’t be a Top 150 player, at worst.

Memphis Grizzlies

Hasheem Thabeet (ADP: 160+) was the third most effective Grizzly on a per Minute basis, last season. If Thabeet gets any minutes, snatch him up immediately. That’s a big ‘if’ though.

New Orleans Hornets

Trevor Ariza (ADP: 84) – The only knock on Ariza last year was his FG% and Turnovers. However, he was still a Top 50 player. On New Orleans, he won’t be expected to carry a heavy load offensively. He will get plenty of easy baskets, thanks to CP3. It looks like another Top 50 fantasy season is on the ‘hARIZAn’.
