Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Report – May 17

A lot of dayball in the MLB today. Eight day games to be exact. That only leaves seven night games to work with for Daily Fantasy Drafts. Not ideal, but we can still find some value with fourteen lineups to work with.

Yesterday’s Future of Fantasy Top Target Pitchers:

Jaime Garcia: 7.3 IP – 1 ER – 9 K – Win
Felipe Paulino: 7 IP – 0 ER – 0 K – No Win

As you can see, both the pitchers we wanted to target yesterday turned out phenomenal outings. I don’t usually like to play the high-priced pitchers but Roy Halladayand Shaun Marcum appear to be the top target picks today. The Cubs and Astros are both sub-par offenses that are better suited to hit lefties.

With high-priced options at pitcher we are going to need some bargain-bin players to fill out our rosters. Eric Thames, Colby Rasmus, Sean Rodriguez, Will Venable, James Loney, Brian Bogusevic, John Mayberry, Roger Bernadina and Logan Morrison are all cheap names to look at.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Report – May 16

If you drafted Kevin Correia yesterday, you had a bad time. Correia turned out an infamous negative scoring performance. If you listened to me yesterday when I pimped Ervin Santana and Josh Johnson, you probably had some fun. They finished with the 1st and 3rd best pitching performances last night.

It looks like a great weather day for games all around the league. So what can we expect when drafting our daily fantasy baseball teams? Felipe Paulino and Jaime Garcia are my two top targets today. A pitchers duel should break out in San Francisco with Bumgarner and Garcia. The Giants offense is pretty ugly right now which is why Garcia has some good value on most daily fantasy sites. Felipe Paulino is my secret weapon that is just plain undervalued. I will take advantage of it while I still can.

If you are feeling ballsy then Mike Minor might be a sneaky pick for you. Minor has allowed 21 Earned Runs over his last three starts so we might see a “fight for your job” type of performance.

Daily Fantasy Sites continue to raise Bryan LaHair’s salary but he is still a bargain Vs. RHP with the way he’s been hitting all year. Jerry Sands is also a player to target today vs. an easy lefty.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Report – May 15

Bruce Chen held the red-hot Texas Rangers to one run while picking up a win. Who would have thunk it? Jon Lester was the number one FanDuel pitcher last night, earning 19 FanDuel points. Meanwhile, John Danks was busy earning a fantastic negative two points for anyone gutsy enough to draft him last night.

Today we have a lot of day games but there are still plenty (9) night games. I can assure you Vin Mazzaro won’t have the same luck against the Rangers that Bruce Chen did last night. This makes David Murphy, Adrian Beltre, Josh Hamilton, and Ian Kinsler top picks for tonight.

Weather may be a factor in the NYY @ BAL and/or MIL @ NYM games. No way I’m going to draft a pitcher with 50% chance of rain. This eliminates CC Sabathia and Zack Greinke from my thought process.

I think Ervin Santana should finally get some run support and is not too expensive at most sites. If you want to really gamble, Josh Johnson might be a good pick as well. He’s been roughed up a lot this year but he’s due for a monster game. The Pirates might be just what he needs to jump start his season.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Report – May 14

Welcome back from the weekend. I didn’t publish any value reports over the weekend but I’m back on the grind now that it’s Monday. Today looks like a great day to fit as many Rangers in your lineup as you can. Playing at home against an easy lefty is just asking for 10 runs. The problem will be the pricing of the Rangers. Brandon Snyder is a cheap option that crushes lefties, will be very cheap on all Daily Fantasy Sports sites, and should be in the lineup Vs. Bruce Chen.

Dan Haren is my favorite pitcher to target today. His price dropped on most sites after he got shelled last outing. Now he should have a bounce-back performance against the A’s. Scott Feldman, Drew Smyly or Tim Stauffer could be decent value picks if you want to roll the dice with a cheaper option.

If you didn’t have Josh Hamilton on your Daily Rosters yesterday, you probably had a bad time. Ham Bone was the #1 Outfield Option in my Value Report yesterday, so you should have had him in your lineups. I held off entering any contests yesterday because of the high percentage of rain in a lot of games. It turned out to not be a problem, but better safe than sorry, right?

Today there may be weather concerns in Mets @ Phillies, Rays @ Yankees and/or Rangers @ Orioles. Those games have potential for a ton of fantasy value so I will probably only enter a few contests today. Make sure you check the weather in those games before picking your players today.

Christian Friedrich Called Up For A Cup Of Coffee

Christian Friedrich was considered the Rockies #1 prospect not too long ago. Then he decided to post back-to-back 5.00+ ERA seasons while his strikeouts per nine innings fell below eight. Not exactly what you want to see from your “top prospect.” Many Rockies fans and scouts in general are blaming Friedrich’s demise on injury problems. If that truly is the case, then his 8.1 K/9 in AAA this year indicates he is still probably less than 100%. Whether Friedrich has all his tools or not, it’s time for him to sit on the pot and do what he can for the Rockies.

Friedrich was just called up to fill-in for for injured Jeremy Guthrie and Jhoulys Chacin and will start today. Making your MLB Debut against the Padres at PETCO is probably the safest way to transition into the big leagues. What will happen after today’s start, though? Jeremy Guthrie is set to return from the Disabled List next week so Friedrich will need to be more impressive than Alex White over his next two starts if he wants to make this opportunity more than just a cup of coffee.

Fantasy Impact: If you are in a 20 team NL-Only League, he may be worth a look. Realistically, you should forget you ever read this and avoid Friedrich like the plague. I think Friedrich could eventually be a decent left-handed option out of the bullpen once the Rockies realize he doesn’t have the stuff to be a MLB starter.
