A Tribute to “The General”

knightCoach Bobby Knight resigned on Monday after six and a half years at Texas Tech where he succeeded in improving the Red Raiders’ basketball program and also in adding to his controversial history. College basketball’s all-time winningest coach (women excluded) will be remembered mostly for his years as the head coach at Indiana University where he led the Hoosiers to three NCAA titles (‘76, ‘81, ‘87), 24 NCAA tournament appearances, and his notorious ability to upset important people. There was also the infamous “chair toss” that helped cement his legacy as one of the biggest hardasses of all time. I knightknightpersonally will remember Bobby Knight for two things: First, “I want they bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my ass.” And second, him giving us the greatest coaching tree of all-time. I think it goes without saying that he gave birth to the two greatest coaches in basketball history, Isiah Thomas and Steve Alford. So here’s to you Bobby Knight, may you be able to hunt in peace and shoot all of the people you want and may you never run into Myles Brand at the supermarket. I wish you luck with your infant grandson whom you are already grooming to be discourteous to the media. As hated as you were by some, you always held your own values and you always put together a solid basketball program. You never got in trouble for recruiting violations and you always had an impressive graduation rate. Congratulations on a great career Coach Knight.
