Continuing with Positional Rankings, here are how I see the Top 50 Shooting Guards shaking out for the 2009-10 Fantasy NBA season:
1. Kevin Durant
2. Danny Granger
3. Brandon Roy
4. Dwyane Wade
5. Kobe Bryant
Notes: OKC’s Kevin Durant had a monster Sophomore season, and is still just 20 years old. The critics love to point of his lack of defense. Durant doesn’t take critisicism lightly, so expect a raise in Steals and Blocks this year while also making a run at the Scoring Title. Last year, Kobe Bryant saw decreases in Points, Treys, Rebounds, Assists, Steals, and times getting to the line. That being said, he was still a Top Five player. The fire may not be burning quite as hot coming off a NBA title, and he will probably get a lot more regular season rest. Let another owner take him in the Top Ten, because I think he finishes in the 10-20 range.
6. Andre Iguodala
7. Kevin Martin
8. Joe Johnson
9. Caron Butler
10. Eric Gordon
11. Vince Carter
12. O.J. Mayo
13. Jason Richardson
14. Ben Gordon
15. J.R. Smith
Notes: We may have a new Turnover leader in 2009, Andre Iguodala. Through the first six pre-season games, Iguodala has averaged 4.5 Turnovers in only 27.3 Minutes. Translate that to the amount of minutes he played last year, and that’s nearly 6.6 Turnovers per Game. Losing Andre Miller may hurt the team chemistry more than expected. That being said, it is a small sample size, and you can expect most of Iguodala’s other statistics to increase. In fantasy terms, he will be just fine in the end. Caron Butler is always an injury risk, and there are a lot of new faces in town. He may be in for a down year. Eric Gordon and O.J. Mayo should have monster Sophomore seasons. You got to like Gordon slightly better since he is clearly the SG in LA. With the acquisitions of AI and ZeBo, the points may not be as easy to find for Mayo. In Denver, J.R. Smith should really shine with Dahntay Jones out of the equation.
16. Wilson Chandler
17. Paul Pierce
18. Stephen Jackson
19. John Salmons
20. Ray Allen
21. Leandro Barbosa
22. Jason Terry
23. Monta Ellis
24. Ramon Sessions
25. Manu Ginobili
Notes: The Knickerbockers Wilson Chandler came into his own last year, and will only get better this year as he is more confident and ready to be the #1 or #2 scoring option for New York. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will do there things as long as they’re healthy, but they are no longer the automatic studs they used to be. Monta Ellis seems to be overrated every year because of how quick and exciting to watch that he is. In the end, he is Jason Terry without the 3-Pointers, and more turnovers.
26. Raymond Felton
27. Rodney Stuckey
28. Nate Robinson
29. Michael Redd
30. D.J. Augustin
31. Hedo Turkoglu
32. Luol Deng
33. Louis Williams
34. Courtney Lee
35. Ron Artest
Notes: Missing 88 games over the last three seasons, is Michael Redd’s body wearing down, or just a stretch of bad luck injuries? After losing Richard Jefferson and Villanueva, he should score plenty of points this year in Milwaukee if he’s healthy. Hedo Turkoglu was 28 when he had his breakout season two seasons ago. Players who break out late, often regress early. Don’t expect much out of Turkoglu in Toronto. The Nets are looking for someone to fill Vinsanity’s scoring void, Courtney Lee would love to be that guy. 14-16 pts, 4 rebs, 1.5 steals and 1.5 treys sounds about right.
36. Ronnie Brewer
37. James Harden
38. Kirk Hinrich
39. Brandon Rush
40. Josh Howard
41. Jamal Crawford
42. Rudy Fernandez
43. Tyreke Evans
44. Randy Foye
45. Jonny Flynn
Notes: In 19 starts last season Brandon Rush averaged 15.9 pts, 5.4 rebs, and 1.9 treys… look for a great sophomore campaign from this Pacer. Jamal Crawford’s value is solely based on treys, ft% and points. He doesn’t fill up a stat sheet and he is a FG% killer. Speaking of FG% killers, only 5 players hurt fantasy owners in the FG category worse than Randy Foye last year. You can expect him to shoot a better percentage from the field now that he’s a 4th or 5th option in Washington. Unfortunately, you can also expect the rest of his stats to take a hit though.
46. Francisco Garcia
47. Allen Iverson
48. Kelenna Azubuike
49. Jarrett Jack
50. Stephen Curry
Notes: If you could guarantee me Kelenna Azubuike plays 30 minutes a night, he ranking would boost up tremendously. However, you can’t guarantee anything in Golden State as long as Nellie is running things. I’ll pass on Warriors this year, and let Nellie make some other fantasy owner miserable. Jarrett Jack is still only 26, and a change of scenery make work in his favor. He should see at least 30 minutes while playing both guard positions. His risk is a lot lower than his reward if you can get him in the last few rounds of your draft.
